Abstract

Infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria represent a serious public health problem, requiring active surveillance and real-time monitoring. This study describes the implementation of an interactive dashboard developed by the Hospital Infection Control Service (SCIH) from December 2022 to March 2023 in a tertiary public reference hospital in Ceará, applied and refined between April 2023 and March 2025. The tool consists of a Microsoft Power BI dashboard integrating two independent systems, enabling daily mapping and monitoring of patients requiring contact precautions due to infection or colonization with MDR bacteria. The dashboard integrates laboratory and care data, providing clear and accessible visualization, automatically updated for managers and the Internal Bed Regulation Unit (NIR). Operational indicators before and after implementation were evaluated. Isolation update time was reduced from 180 to 2.5 minutes daily (98.62% reduction). An average of 15 MDR-positive cultures per day were recorded. Initially, 12% of hospitalized patients required daily contact precautions (about 96 patients), decreasing to 9% (average 78 patients) in 2025. Automatic updates allowed rapid information dissemination, supporting faster decisions and improved traceability. The use of BI dashboards proved effective in reducing response time, expanding surveillance, and organizing care workflows, optimizing SCIH performance, promoting patient safety, and demonstrating potential for replication in other hospital settings.
