The role of the United Nations in confronting the changing nature of emerging international armed conflicts

The victorious countries after World War II worked to establish an international organization called the United Nations, undertaking to spare future generations the scourge of war. These countries enshrined this approach in the goals and principles of the emerging organization, making the maintenance of international peace and security its overriding objective and primary function. On this basis, it began to exercise its powers to confront all threats to international peace and security. However, over time, the mission of the United Nations became increasingly difficult as it began to face a tangible change in the nature of armed conflicts, shifting from their traditional forms to new forms shrouded in ambiguity, complexity, and the multiplicity of actors involved. Accordingly, the United Nations worked to harness all its capabilities to adapt to the new situation. However, the current reality indicates an urgent international need to take broad steps based on the support of all countries for the United Nations so that it can continue its journey in addressing emerging challenges to international peace and security.
