Key Points

  • This research aims to uncover how electroacupuncture (EA) affects cartilage health and pain in osteoarthritis (OA).
  • Utilized OA mouse model to investigate effects of electroacupuncture.
  • Analyzed the role of the Ca2+/STAT3/FGFR4 signaling pathway in CSPCs' function.
  • Measured proliferation of CSPCs in response to electroacupuncture.
  • Electroacupuncture significantly increased CSPC proliferation in the OA mice model.
  • Activation of the Ca2+/STAT3/FGFR4 signaling pathway was observed with EA treatment.
  • Improvements in pain and cartilage degeneration indicators were noted.

Abstract

Our findings in this study provide valuable insights into the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the effects of EA on pain and cartilage degeneration in OA mice. EA may enhance CSPCs' function via the Ca2+/STAT3/FGFR4 signaling pathway in the OA mice model, providing possible novel targets for treating chronic aging-related OA diseases.
