Tirupur, located in Tamil Nadu, is widely recognized as one of India’s leading centres for knitted garment production and export. The growth of this industry depends largely on the efficiency and skills of its workforce involved in production stages such as knitting, cutting, stitching, finishing, and quality inspection. This study analyses the contribution of workers in maintaining Tirupur’s status as a global knitting hub and examines the challenges faced by employees and their ability to handle modern production technologies. It also highlights the importance of workforce participation in sustaining the industry’s global reputation. The study further emphasizes the role of skilled labour in maintaining production efficiency and product quality. The study adopts a quantitative and descriptive research approach. Primary data were collected through questionnaires from workers in selected knitting units, while secondary data were gathered from books, journals, and research reports related to the textile sector using convenience sampling. The findings show that the industry mainly relies on a moderately experienced workforce, with many workers coming from different districts for employment. Technological developments such as computerized design software and digital quality control systems have improved productivity and product quality. However, workers still face challenges such as heavy workloads, inadequate infrastructure, long working hours, and limited training. The study suggests improving working conditions, strengthening skill development programs, and adopting advanced technologies for the sustainable growth of the industry.
