aims: FORMULATION OF CROSSLINKED GUAR GUM FOR SUSTAINED RELEASE: FORMULATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND IN-VIVO LIPID LOWERING ACTIVITY background: Fibrillation is major cause of cardiovascular disease that leads to severe other issues as kidney failure, ischemic heart diseases, stroke and sudden cardiac death that all leads to mortality. With the same reference Gemfibrozil (Gem) being fibric acid derivative having anti-hyperlipidemic effects have been selected to formulate sustain release dosage form. objective: The objective of present study involves formulation of Gem polyspheres by utilizing modulated guar gum. The guar gum used were modulated by crosslinking it with sodium tri-polyphosphate to enhance its property to fit in with extended-release characteristics. method: Gemfibrozil polyspheres were prepared via emulsification solvent evaporation method in which different quantities of crosslinked guar gum were used. result: In present work, it was observed that cross-linking of guar gum with STPP could be attained in a single step reaction that is possible under normal laboratory conditions. The polyspheres were efficiently formulated with particle size of 1.4 mm, and cumulative release of 76.4% in 24 hrs. conclusion: The study concludes that cross-linked gum displayed potential to be new biomaterial in pharmaceutical formulations designed for prolonged release of drug. other: NA
