Key Points

  • The aim is to examine the link between player level, body composition, and performance in elite women's soccer.
  • Compared body composition and performance metrics among national-team and club players
  • Assessed speed and maximum aerobic speed (MAS) of players
  • Analyzed associations between body composition and performance variables
  • No significant differences in body composition between player groups
  • National-team players exhibited greater speed and higher MAS
  • Weak-to-moderate correlations found between body composition and performance outcomes

Abstract

Despite no differences in body composition between groups, national-team players were faster and had higher MAS, and body composition showed weak-to-moderate associations with performance. Elite preparation should therefore target the concurrent development of physical performance and body composition, progressed together within multidisciplinary, high-standard practice.
