Der Vortrag analysiert anhand literarischer und publizistischer Beispiele die hundertjährigen Gedenkfeiern zu Lomonossows Tod 1865, eines der ersten offiziell unterstützten Jubiläen im Russischen Reich. Initiiert von Majkov und konservativen Intellektuellen, zeichneten sie sich durch ultranationalistische Rhetorik und ausgeprägten Antigermanismus aus, der sowohl die Feierlichkeiten in St. Petersburg als auch die kritischen Reaktionen in Deutschland prägte.
