Summary: Pediatric patients face specific challenges when they are displaced as a result of war. Clinicians must understand the impact of generational trauma on pediatric patients as well as their lack of childhood livelihood, as it pertains to their future. Mitigation strategies, including how to support displaced populations and educate them on disaster preparedness while they are still traumatized, can be challenging. Specific examples from first-hand experiences with children that have been impacted by generational trauma will be shared, as well as an in-depth discussion on how to break the cycle and the importance of pediatric-specific mental health support.
