Introduction: Indonesia (WRI 43.50) is ranked second-highest in global disaster risk according to the 2023 World Risk Report (WRR). As of February 2023, Indonesia’s healthcare system is supported by approximately 557,000 nurses, according to the Indonesian Health Ministry’s health workers’ information system (SI-SDMK). These nurses are essential to the country’s disaster emergency response efforts, providing critical care and support during emergencies and enhancing the nation’s resilience against frequent natural and human-made disasters. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current practice of disaster nursing in Indonesia. Methods: A scoping review was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute framework. Electronic literature searches of English-language articles on ASEAN countries published between 2019 and 2024 were conducted using Web of Science, CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, SINTA, and Google Scholar. The keywords of sub-title searching were “nursing”, “education”, “training”, “competencies”, “disaster”, in combination with the Boolean operators “OR” and “AND”. Eligibility criteria were outlined as a priori to guide the literature selection. Results: 17 articles from 16.551 publications were included in the final analysis. Findings reveal the scope of disaster nursing practice in Indonesia: nursing management in times of disaster, psychosocial handling, and Community Practice during each phase of disaster. Various training and education programs have been designed to improve the disaster nurse practice. However, gaps exist regarding the specific operational application standards for integrating disaster nursing curriculum into nursing formal education. Conclusion: The insights gathered can guide future curriculum development to advance disaster nursing practice in Indonesia. Future recommendations include developing the operational application framework in the formal nursing education curriculum.
