Abstract

This study examined online shopping addiction (OSA) as a predictor of negative emotions for online shoppers. An online survey was conducted with a closed-ended questionnaire that comprised 31 items, obtaining demographic data, and responses about online shopping addiction and negative emotions. Data was collected from 102 respondents, and it has been identified that youngsters are more prone to OSA. Moreover, there was no significant difference in gender and education in terms of OSA. Whereas family income has a positive association with OSA. OSA significantly influences the negative emotions, but the individual effect of all components of OSA could not be found significant; only three of them — salience, tolerance, and conflict — have a significant effect on negative emotions. This study will add valuable insight into the paradigm of OSA and its contribution to evolving negative emotions in people, which will help in planning awareness campaigns and psychosocial intervention programs.
