This contextual database, Contextual Heterosexism Database – Phase 3 (CHD3), expands the collection of contextual data available to users of The National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health) by providing state-level indicators linked to the Sexual Orientation / Gender Identity, Socioeconomic Status, and Health Across the Life Course (SOGI-SES) subset of the Add Health (data collected 2020). These measures were derived from multiple external sources, including estimates of income inequality from the American Community Survey (ACS), election returns compiled by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Election Data and Science Lab, legal and policy measures from the Movement Advancement Project (MAP), public opinion measures from Harvard’s Cooperative Election Survey (CES) , the U.S. Religion Census, the 2020 U.S. Decennial Census, and representation data from the Victory Institute’s Out for American database. Together, these data sources provide indicators of social policies, social climate, and confounding factors related to the measurement of structural heterosexism.
