Key Points

  • The aim is to demonstrate terahertz radiation generation using a third-harmonic gyrotron.
  • Used a high-Q conventional resonator for enhanced performance.
  • Measured output power with a calorimeter.
  • Confirmed operating frequency using a Fabry–Pérot interferometer.
  • Operated with a 12 kV/0.6 A electron beam and a magnetic field of 11.87 T.
  • Achieved an output power of about 10 W.
  • Confirmed frequency stability and effectiveness of the third-harmonic technique.

Abstract

Watts-level terahertz radiation has been realized in a third-harmonic gyrotron with an annular electron beam and a high-Q conventional resonator. The output power is measured with the calorimeter, and the operating frequency is confirmed with a Fabry–Pérot interferometer. The output power is about 10 W when the third-harmonic gyrotron operating with a 12 kV/0.6 A electron beam and an operating magnetic field of 11.87 T.
