• We unpack the production network of a modern dance piece to explore processes of innovation in the Cultural and Creative Sector • We show that modern dance is a more extreme case within the CCS being Bourdieuan restricted field of cultural production aimed at experimentation • We found that the whole production network - not just the creation phase - is permeated with a deeply ingrained attitude to create cultural value. • We show that a production network lens highlights the relational character of innovation which transcends boundaries of the conventional categories • We propose an interactionist approach to investigate processes of innovation in the CCS
