the patient pain level. 12Various stimuli, such as evaporative and thermal triggers, are involved, including a brief air blast from a 3-way syringe, placing an ice stick, applying ethyl chloride, or exposing the teeth to cold water. 11While dentinal hypersensitivity is often short lived and tends to diminish after the final restoration, ongoing symptoms can adversely impact patient comfort and satisfaction.Several therapeutic approaches have been proposed to address dentinal hypersensitivity, such as neural desensitization, intratubular protein coagulation, sealing or occluding tubules, and employing laser-based treatments. 13 IntroductIonPostoperative dentinal hypersensitivity is a common clinical observation following the preparation of vital teeth.The prevalence of this condition is reported to be quite high, with incidence rates ranging from about 4-74%. 1 Epidemiological studies indicate that this condition is more common in females, with the highest occurrence seen in individuals aged 30-40 years.Canines are the teeth most often affected, followed by premolars. 233]4567 This sensitivity can arise due to factors such as gingival recession, erosive tooth wear, attrition, or restorative procedures like crown preparation. 8hen preparing a full crown, the peripheral ends of around 1-2 million dentinal tubules are exposed, with a density of approximately 30,000-40,000 tubules per mm. 8This exposure allows bacterial irritants to impact the pulp tissue, while thermal, tactile, or chemical stimuli can cause movement of dentinal fluid, leading to a pain response as explained by Brnnstrm hydrodynamic theory. 9Several factors contribute to hypersensitivity after preparation, such as excessive dentin removal, using rotary instruments without sufficient coolant, dentin dehydration during the procedure, delays in placing the final restoration, and the use of certain dental materials that might irritate the pulp. 10he clinical examination must thoroughly evaluate all sensitive teeth to accurately identify them. 11This process helps in reconstructing the factors that trigger sensitivity and assessing 1-
