Key Points

  • The research aims to investigate how a constant magnetic field affects the plastic properties and phase composition of AK9 aluminum alloy across a range of temperatures.
  • Applied a constant magnetic field of 557.2 kA/m during the aging of AK9 aluminum alloy for 4 hours.
  • Analyzed the microstructure and phase composition of the alloy after exposure to varying temperatures from 120 to 350°C.
  • Measured microhardness to assess changes in material properties.
  • Found that the application of a magnetic field increases the average path length of dislocations in the alloy.
  • Observed an enhancement in the plastic properties and a reduction in structural distortion of the alloy after magnetic exposure.
  • Microhardness measurements indicated improved mechanical properties post-aging under a magnetic field.

Abstract

The analysis of experimental results shows that the application of relatively small magnetic fields can change the plastic properties of crystals and the kinetics of observed processes. During the exposure, a magnetoplastic effect is detected, which consists in an increase in the average path length of dislocations. The effect of temperature from 120 to 350°C and a constant magnetic field of 557.2 kA/m on the aging of aluminum alloy AK9 for 4 h has been investigated. Analysis of the results of the microstructure study, microhardness measurements and determination of the phase composition of the aged aluminum alloy AK9 has shown that under the influence of a constant magnetic field, an increase in the plastic properties of the alloy is observed, and its structure becomes less distorted.
