Key Points

  • This research aims to explore the effects of lithium concentrations on the properties of hydroxyapatite and its biological impact.
  • Investigated lithium concentrations from 1 to 20 mol.% in hydroxyapatite
  • Measured relative dielectric permittivity associated with different lithium levels
  • Assessed the cytotoxicity and cell proliferation of MG-63 cells over seven days
  • Higher lithium concentrations correlate with increased dielectric permittivity
  • Lithium incorporation shows no acute cytotoxic effects
  • Proliferation of MG-63 cells is enhanced in the presence of lithium over time

Abstract

The impact of varying lithium concentrations introduced into hydroxyapatite has been extensively documented, spanning a wide range of concentrations from 1 to 20 mol.%. It has been demonstrated that an increase in the content of Li ions is associated with enhanced growth of relative dielectric permittivity. Concurrently, the introduction of lithium does not elicit acute cytotoxicity and is conducive to the proliferation of MG-63 cells in vitro, as observed over a seven-day period.
