ABSTRACT Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is widely used in seals for its low friction, yet its high wear rate restricts broader application. This study examines how temperature (25°C/80°C) and surface treatment (untreated/chromium‐plated) affect the tribological performance of 40 wt% bronze‐filled PTFE under dry and lubricated conditions. Reciprocating tests and surface analysis reveal that the chromium‐plated surface inhibits transfer film formation under dry friction, increasing friction and wear, while higher temperature enhances film stability. Under lubrication, the untreated surface exhibits oil viscosity‐dominated behavior with increased wear at 80°C, whereas the chromium‐plated surface shows transfer film‐controlled friction and slightly reduced wear. These findings aid in selecting surface treatments for PTFE‐based seals.
