Abstract

Teacher is the central figure in the transmission of knowledge, values and cultural heritage to students. So, their understanding of how education influences identity formation is significant. This study examines teachers’ perceptions of the role of education in shaping the social and cultural identity of Indian youth. The study follows descriptive survey method by using self-made interview schedule. The sample of the study consist of 100 undergraduate secondary school teachers to explores how educators view the curriculum, pedagogical practices, and school environment in relation to cultural and social development. Findings indicate that teachers perceive education as a powerful tool for preserving cultural values, promoting social harmony, and fostering national identity. However, they also highlight challenges such as curriculum limitations, academic pressure, and the increasing influence of digital media on youth identity. The study concludes with recommendations for integrating multicultural education and value-based learning into teacher training programs.
