Multiple laser spot sizes treatment of childhood spider nevi: a retrospective study of 452 patients

Abstract

Spider nevus (SN) is a common cutaneous vasoproliferative disorder in children. Data on the use of 595 nm PDL with multiple laser spot sizes for treating SN in children remain scarce. To summarize the clinical characteristics and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of 595 nm PDL with multiple laser spot sizes in treating SN in children. A retrospective study was conducted on 452 patients treated for SN using 595 nm PDL with multiple laser spot sizes. Among the 452 children with a total of 508 lesions, complete resolution was achieved. Lesions on the head and face required a greater proportion of multiple treatments compared to other locations, whereas lesions on the neck and other areas were cured with a single treatment (χ2 = 7.774E-8, p = 0.001). There was a significant association between lesion diameter and the number of treatments, with larger lesions requiring a greater proportion of multiple treatments (χ2 = 4.725, p = 0.001). Regarding treatment season, more treatments were needed in summer (χ2 = 13.233, p = 0.001). A total of 36 children (7.08%) experienced localized adverse reactions. Our findings confirmed the efficacy and safety of 595 nm PDL with multiple laser spot sizes for treating SN in children.
