Abstract

Objective: While conventional physiotherapy is effective in treating frozen shoulder (FS), the potential benefits of music remain unclear. This study investigated the effects of incorporating music as an adjunctive therapy in FS treatment, focusing on pain, range of motion, functional status, and quality of life. Material and Methods: Forty FS patients with passive joint movement limited to 50-75% of the normal range were randomly assigned to four groups: (1) music + mobilization + exercise, (2) music + exercise, (3) mobilization + exercise, and (4) exercise only. Treatments were conducted three times per week for six weeks. Pain (Visual Analog Scale), range of motion (goniometer), functional condition (DASH; Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Questionnaire), and quality of life Short Form-36 (SF)-36 were assessed pre- and post-treatment. Results: Groups 1 and 3 showed significant improvements in pain, range of motion, and quality of life (p0.5) for most outcomes. Conclusion: This study suggests that music may provide potential benefits when used as a complementary component in frozen shoulder rehabilitation. Although it did not significantly reduce pain, music positively influenced functional status and quality of life. The SF-36 results indicate that music may help reduce psychological distress and improve overall wellbeing, supporting its use as a supportive intervention in physiotherapy.
