Key Points

  • The aim is to selectively synthesize a carbon dimer from diphenylphenol under electrochemical conditions.
  • Electrochemical synthesis under variable potential
  • Formation of para,para carbon-carbon dimer
  • Conversion to reduced dibenzofuran at room temperature
  • Control of reaction using electricity and light
  • Successful formation of tetraphenyl dibenzoquinone from diphenylphenol
  • Dimer reduced to dibenzofuran
  • Controlled reactions led to efficient conversions

Abstract

The selective formation of the para, para carbon-carbon dimer tetraphenyl dibenzoquinone from diphenylphenol is reported under electrochemical conditions and variable potential. The dibenzoquinone dimer was converted into its reduced state and dibenzofurans, at room temperature, a process that was controlled by electricity and light.
