Marie-Claire Marcotte’s published plays, Peau (2016) and Flush (2020), examine family, motherhood, and identity, using dynamic concepts and colourful female characters in a theatrical landscape that is still hostile to them. Applying Ariane Brun del Re’s work on the role of the house in Franco-Canadian literature and Louise H. Forsyth’s work on exile in Fransaskois theatre, this article explores how these plays’ female characters cannot embrace their futures until they return to, restore, and live within the family home, assuming their roles not only as mothers, but also as daughters.
