This article presents a critical–propositional examination of Lawrence Ip’s Spectral Ontology: A Theory of Coherent Identity in confrontation with the Theory of Objectivity (TO). Its central aim is to assess the conceptual strength, modal reach, and ontological implications of Ip’s spectral framework, especially the claim that identity is not primitively given, but spectrally realized through the coherence law . The study argues that Spectral Ontology offers a sophisticated formal ontology of coherent identity, with noteworthy contributions to the discussion of relation, emergence, admissibility, entropy, incompleteness, and operator-based foundation. At the same time, the article shows that, under the modal discipline of the Theory of Objectivity, this proposal remains limited as a total foundation, since it does not fully account for absolute modal axioms, cosmogonic genesis, triadic observation, phenomenic structure, and informational transcendence as understood in TO. The article is structured as a critical dialogue between Ip’s spectral proposal and three bibliographic horizons: the foundational bibliography of the Theory of Objectivity, its recent developments on modal ontology and empirical bridges, and a wider supporting bibliography in physics, philosophy, and foundations of mathematics. It concludes that Spectral Ontology should be read as an important operatorial metaphysics of coherent identity, but not yet as a sufficient replacement for the broader cosmogonic and phenomenological architecture of the Theory of Objectivity. As a result, the paper contributes to the respectful scientific debate on contemporary foundational systems by clarifying both the compatibilities and the tensions between spectral ontology and TO, and by proposing a more precise place for Ip’s framework within the wider landscape of modal, ontological, and cosmological inquiry.
