The Impact of Mindful Organizing on Construction Safety Violations: A Moderated Mediation Model

Although the safety benefits of mindful organizing have been empirically examined, we still know little about the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying the relationship between mindful organizing and safety violations. Empirical data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 408 Chinese construction workers and were analyzed using structural equation modeling and hierarchical linear regression. The results indicated that mindful organizing influenced safety violations indirectly through both safety moral disengagement (−0.25 and p<0.001) and illegitimate task perception (−0.03 and p<0.05). Furthermore, the effects of mindful organizing on safety violations are moderated by project identification. The findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge by offering a deep understanding of how and when mindful organizing promotes construction safety performance. In practice, this research will enable construction managers to develop appropriate strategies to promote mindful organizing practices for fostering safety behaviors in construction workers.
