Academic Literacy is a new Academic English course at Kyushu University taught to a large number of students over a short period of eight weeks, with long workload hours. A video-based group project was designed to address these three challenges; such an assignment meant that students worked mostly after class, while collaboratively producing a video for the instructor to assess, and presenting the final product in the last lesson. This paper reports on the design of the project as it was implemented in the first semester of AY2025, and discusses the findings from their post-course evaluations and reflections.
