Early in-hospital physical and respiratory rehabilitation significantly improves functional capacity and NYHA class in patients recovering from multivalvular heart surgery.
Objective. To develop a program for early cardiac rehabilitation of patients after surgical correction of multivalvular heart defects. Material and methods. Between 2023 and 2025, 51 patients underwent surgical correction of multivalvular heart disease. They were randomized into two groups: in the first group (24 patients) physical training and respiratory rehabilitation on the Acapella simulator were carried out in addition to standard drug therapy; in the second group (23 people) standard drug therapy was carried out. Results. Objective assessment of cardiac rehabilitation according to 6-minute walk test showed significantly longer distance in the 1st group (425.4±26.4 (NYHA class 1—2) vs. 316.6±14.3 m (NYHA class 2—3)) (p<0.05). Conclusion. The developed program of in-hospital cardiac rehabilitation showed good results. It reduced functional class and improved clinical status of patients. Patients with multivalvular heart defects represent a severe category with longer recovery period. Following the recommendations for lifestyle changes and physical activity after hospitalization contribute to faster recovery and return to full life.

Ivanov et al. (Wed,) conducted a rct in Multivalvular heart defects (n=51). Physical training and respiratory rehabilitation on the Acapella simulator vs. Standard drug therapy was evaluated on 6-minute walk test distance (p=<0.05). Early cardiac rehabilitation with physical and respiratory training significantly increased 6-minute walk test distance compared to standard therapy alone (425.4 vs 316.6 m; p<0.05).
