This article examines the portrayals of men and women in Yazghi proverbs and poems, specifically the serrabas, to explore how gender concepts are utilized to reinforce male dominance. Drawing from data collected on Facebook and the website Benyazgha.com, the study employs semantic and sociolinguistic criteria to analyze the depiction of Yazghi women and men. Through a focus on serrabas and traditional oral culture of Beni Yazgha, the research delves into themes concerning gender and societal norms. Existing studies on gender in the Moroccan context provide a foundation for this analysis, highlighting disparities and inequalities between genders perpetuated through traditional discourses and imagery. By emphasizing the socially constructed nature of gender, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of gender portrayals in cultural contexts like Yazghi proverbs and poems.
