This paper presents the development of the KLNG2, a new open standard hullform for a 170,000 CBM class Twin-skeg LNG carrier developed by the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO). The main particulars were selected to represent a typical vessel of this class. The bow geometry was derived from the KLNG, which was KRISO’s existing 138K single screw standard hull form, while the stern features a Twin-skeg configuration optimized via parametric design and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. In addition to the hull geometry, specifications for the propeller and rudder are described in this paper. Comprehensive model test results, comprising resistance test, Propeller Open Water (POW), and self-propulsion test, are also reported. As the first Twin-skeg open standard hullform released by KRISO, the KLNG2 is expected to serve as a valuable benchmark for research in both academia and the shipbuilding industry.
