As the most dynamic micro-elements within urban public spaces, the evolution of public furniture design paradigms profoundly mirrors China's urbanisation transition from incremental expansion to stock-based quality enhancement. To clarify the knowledge structure and evolutionary patterns within this field, this study selected 417 journal articles published between 1998 and 2025 from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database as its sample.CiteSpace 6.2.R4 software was employed to construct a scientific knowledge map.Findings reveal: temporally and spatially, publication volume exhibits a pronounced policy-driven wave-like growth pattern. However, the institutional collaboration network density remains a mere 0.0068, indicating that domestic research forces exhibit highly dispersed, atomised distribution characteristics, yet to form a cohesive, cross-regional, crossdisciplinary academic community. In terms of evolutionary logic, research over the past three decades has undergone three paradigm shifts: from functionalist standardisation in foundational construction, to aesthetic self-awareness through regional cultural symbolisation, and finally to systemic integration of smart interaction and social resilience.Regarding frontier trends, under the dual waves of urban micro-renewal and digitalisation, scene repair, evidence-based design, and allage inclusivity constitute the current research frontiers.Future research must transcend disciplinary boundaries, advancing towards data-driven scientific and systematic approaches.
