Benefits and Challenges of Adopting Lean Construction Practices in Developing Economies

This paper explores the benefits and challenges associated with adopting lean construction practices in developing economies, using Nigeria as a case study. Lean construction offers a structured approach to minimizing waste, improving efficiency, and enhancing project outcomes. Despite these advantages, its adoption in developing economies faces significant barriers, including financial constraints, inadequate training, and resistance to change. Data collected from 200 construction professionals in Lagos State highlights that while 70% of respondents acknowledge lean practices as beneficial, only 25% report full implementation. Statistical analysis reveals a strong correlation between the adoption of lean construction and improved project performance. This paper provides actionable recommendations for overcoming these challenges and promoting the widespread adoption of lean construction practices in Nigeria
