Every Certain Fundamental Is a Twin: A Structural Dissolution

Every ontological primitive in the history of philosophy arrives paired with a complement it cannoteliminate. Being requires Non-being. Mind requires Matter. Subject requires Object. Informationrequires Non-information. This paper argues that the pairing is not accidental, not linguistic, andnot a correctable oversight. It is structural. A primitive can only be identified under a contrastcondition, and the contrast condition is the complement. Selection of a single-sided foundationpresupposes the pair the selection was supposed to avoid. This is a provable impossibility result,independent of any particular metaphysical framework. The paper further argues that allconstitutive pairs reduce to a single structural operation—the act of distinguishing—and that thisreduction dissolves the traditional question “what is the fundamental entity?” as a category error.The question presupposes that what is fundamental is a thing. What is fundamental is a condition.The paper closes with three explicit defeat conditions under which the argument must be retracted.
