ABSTRACT Gypsum binders are widely used in the construction industry. The aim of the study is to model the influence of grinding and gypsum quality on the factors affecting the setting time of α‐hemihydrate using the design of experiments method. The setting time, as one of the most important properties, was determined by the crystal water (cw) content and the particle size. In the first part of the study, the change in particle size of hemihydrate was observed by varying the grain size and cw content of the raw gypsum, autoclaving time and grinding intensity as model parameters. In the second session, the results of the previous part were used to model the setting time by choosing the particle size distribution values and the cw content of the hemihydrate as model parameters.
