This paper discusses the consistency problem of the Higgs mechanism in explaining mass generation and mass disappearance during particle annihilation. It points out that the Higgs mechanism can explain how particles acquire mass but cannot reasonably explain how mass vanishes when massive particles annihilate into massless photons. Based on the theory of matter generated by confined high‑energy photons, this paper provides a unified and self‑consistent physical picture for mass generation, annihilation, and mass‑energy conversion, which is more complete and logical than the Higgs mechanism.
