Analyzing the Antecedents Influencing Job Satisfaction Among Information Technology Employees in Saudi Arabia

The factors influencing job satisfaction among Information Technology (IT) staff, vital for effective technology adoption in businesses, have received limited attention. This study examines six components of job satisfaction—promotion opportunities, salary, characteristics of the immediate supervisor, work environment, management philosophy in dealing with subordinates, and performance appraisal systems—in addition to overall job satisfaction. The research aims to evaluate employees' job satisfaction, explore correlations between job satisfaction antecedents and overall satisfaction levels, and determine the relative importance of job satisfaction dimensions from the perspective of IT employees. Analysis of 500 valid responses using SPSS reveals a significant relationship between employees' job satisfaction and demographic factors. The study also identifies a positive correlation between job satisfaction dimensions and overall satisfaction levels. The relative importance of job satisfaction dimensions, as perceived by IT employees, is ranked as follows: salary, work environment, qualities of the immediate supervisor, promotion opportunities, management philosophy in dealing with subordinates, and performance appraisal systems. The study findings indicate that employees' job satisfaction level is moderate, with positive relationships observed between job satisfaction and factors such as work environment, qualities of immediate supervisor, promotion opportunities, management philosophy in dealing with subordinates, and performance appraisal systems. The study recommends that management should prioritize attention to salary and the work environment to enhance job satisfaction levels. Additionally, the findings support the importance of job satisfaction in predicting both intentions to leave and organizational commitment. The study also outlines future research directions and provides recommendations for managing IT staff effectively.
