AbstractRotary steerable systems are an important technological solution for improving the efficiency of directional and horizontal drilling. Compared with conventional downhole motor-based steering methods, rotary steerable systems provide continuous drill string rotation, better trajectory control, improved hole cleaning, reduced friction, and a lower risk of sticking. This paper reviews the relevance of rotary steerable technology in modern well construction and summarizes recent research trends in the field. Special attention is given to the PowerDrive family developed by Schlumberger, including the PowerDrive Exceed, PowerDrive Orbit G2, and PowerDrive Archer systems. Their operating principles, application areas, and technological advantages are considered. The study shows that rotary steerable systems can significantly improve drilling performance, especially in long horizontal intervals, complex geological conditions, and extended-reach wells. The results confirm that such systems are a promising direction for the development of modern drilling technologies.
