We propose a subtractive method for verifying consciousness metrics: the systematic subtraction of cognitive abilities shared across the mammalian phylogenetic series from the full human cognitive profile. The non-subtractable remainder is defined as the architecture of subjectivity — the minimal set of computational properties necessary and sufficient for the emergence of a conscious agent. We identify three residual markers: recursive nesting (R), information bandwidth (B), and metarepresentation with self-modification (M). For each marker, we provide falsifiable predictions and experimental tests. Subjectivity is hypothesized to emerge as a phase transition when all three markers are simultaneously realized above their respective thresholds. We discuss implications for biomimetic computational architectures implementing the principle of a self-observing system.
