ABSTRACT Thermal diffusivities of fresh/spent MgO‒Cr 2 O 3 , Al 2 O 3 ‒Cr 2 O 3 , and SiC refractories were measured up to 1400°C using laser flash apparatus (LFA). Thermal diffusivities of the fresh/spent MgO‒Cr 2 O 3 and Al 2 O 3 ‒Cr 2 O 3 refractories had similar values, whereas the SiC refractory showed the highest thermal diffusivities overall. Furthermore, thermal conductivities of the fresh MgO‒Cr 2 O 3 , Al 2 O 3 ‒Cr 2 O 3 , and SiC were also evaluated. Specific heat capacities and densities of refractories were obtained using thermochemical software FactSage 8.3 with FactPS and FToxid databases. Similar to the results of thermal diffusivities, the SiC refractory showed the highest thermal conductivity, while the MgO‒Cr 2 O 3 and Al 2 O 3 ‒Cr 2 O 3 refractories had lower values, similar to each other. The evaluated thermal conductivities were also compared with the thermal conductivities predicted by FactSage 8.3 with FactPS and FToxid databases.
