This article presents data from a study of Betula pendula Roth. stands, which occupy approximately 13% of the covered forest area in the Orenburg Region. By forming productive birch stands, both pure and mixed, they perform strategically important protective and recreational functions in arid territories. Analytical data from a comprehensive analysis of the spread of a pathological disease of birch stands caused by the pathogen Erwinia multivora Scz.-Parf. in the sharply continental climate of the steppe and forest-steppe landscape of the Orenburg Region, as measured by district forestry units, indicate its steady growth and the formation of new persistent foci. The prevalence of this dangerous birch disease ranges from isolated tree infestations to focal infestations (17.4–44.6%) in the study area. In the arid climate of the Orenburg region, this bacterial disease primarily affects middle-aged and mature birch stands. Birch stands affected by bacterial dropsy are effectively a morthorizon and require timely sanitary felling to prevent the spread of the disease, with subsequent monitoring of existing stands.
