Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects nearly 10% of pregnancies in the United States (US) and dietary modification is the cornerstone of treatment. However, adhering to medical nutrition therapy can be difficult. We explored the experiences of US women diagnosed with GDM regarding adoption of nutrition therapy. Through in-depth interviews with 20 participants, we sought to identify common challenges, strategies, and sources of support. Key themes included the role of family and social support, the importance of structured daily routines, adapting carbohydrate intake without full restriction, and the use of online communities as supplemental sources of support and knowledge. Together, these findings provide insight into how women with GDM navigate dietary recommendations and highlight opportunities for more person-centered support strategies.
