Abstract

Magnetometer survey carried out over c. 2.8ha using quad-towed and hand-carried GNSS-positioned bespoke fluxgate gradiometer system. Magnitude Surveys was commissioned to assess the subsurface archaeological potential of a 2.8ha area of land at the former Manton Primary School, Worksop, Nottinghamshire. A fluxgate gradiometer survey was undertaken across 2.3ha of the survey area, with c. 0.5ha unable to be surveyed due to overgrown vegetation and trees. No anomalies clearly indicative of archaeological origin were identified. Anomalies related to the remnants of the former Manton Primary School were detected near the western boundary of Area 1. A series of anomalies have been detected and classified as undetermined due to a lack of contextual evidence. Modern interference caused by extant metal fencing, metal posts, hardstanding pitches, ferrous debris from a nearby housing development and previous land use were detected.
