Key Points

  • To investigate whether schema modes predict the outcomes of cognitive behavioural therapy for patients with OCD and anxiety disorders.
  • Designed a study to assess the relationship between schema modes and CBT outcomes.
  • Included patients diagnosed with OCD and anxiety disorders.
  • Utilized statistical analyses to evaluate the influence of schema modes on therapy results.
  • Found a small effect size indicating little influence of schema modes on CBT outcomes.
  • Concluded that results are not strong enough to draw definitive conclusions about schema modes in these disorders.

Abstract

Given the small effect size, our study does not yield strong evidence that schema modes influence CBT outcome for patients with OCD or anxiety disorders. Given that this is the first study testing this effect, our findings need to be replicated, preferably in disorder-specific samples.
