ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the effects of companion connectedness and ostracism on girlfriend getaway travel experiences through guimi guanxi . A face‐to‐face time‐based systematic sampling survey was conducted in Macao. A total of 321 data were analysed using partial least squares‐structural equation modelling. The results showed that both connectedness and ostracism influenced affection and trust in guanxi ; however, the positive strength of connectedness was stronger than the negative strength of ostracism. Only connectedness affected the reciprocity of guanxi and travel experience, whereas ostracism did not. Among the three dimensions of guanxi , trust had the greatest effect, followed by affection, while reciprocity was the weakest. This study can help strengthen the development of close relationships between guimi and promote the sustainable development of Chinese girlfriend getaways. Furthermore, this study provides a better understanding of Chinese guanxi in girlfriend getaways while contributing to the guimi guanxi literature.
