90 adult patients (mean age 70.4, 55.6% male) with suspected or known carotid artery disease and the presence of an atherosclerotic plaque at the carotid bifurcation, referred for carotid Doppler ultrasound.

Vector flow imaging-derived mean wall shear stress at the plaque peak provides high diagnostic accuracy for detecting severe carotid stenosis and may complement conventional ultrasound grading.
