A staged programme of archaeological work was undertaken by Oakford Archaeology in January 2026 on land at Copper Beech, Eggesford, Devon. The site is located in an area where limited prehistoric activity has previously been identified within the wider landscape, as well as in close proximity to the medieval manor house of Eggesford. T The works involved the excavation of three trenches, totalling 33m in length, with each trench 1.2m wide and excavated to a maximum depth of 0.5m and positioned to provide a spatial sample of the site. No archaeological features, deposits or dating material was recovered from the excavations. The lack of pottery and lithics from the site, despite examination of spoil heaps, further indicates that the potential for significant archaeological survival is low. nothing of significance was found
