Key Points

  • To validate and adapt the Interpersonal Behaviors Questionnaire (IBQ) for the Spanish sports context, focusing on coach-athlete interactions.
  • Adaptation of the existing Interpersonal Behaviors Questionnaire (IBQ) to include novelty.
  • Conducted reliability testing for the adapted IBQ.
  • Analyzed the alignment between athletes' perceptions of coaches and coaches' self-perceptions.
  • The adapted IBQ displays high reliability among Spanish athletes and coaches.
  • Athletes and coaches' perceptions show strong synchronization.
  • The adapted questionnaire effectively predicts physical activity intentions.

Abstract

The IBQ with the addition of novelty is a reliable instrument that structurally improves the original scale, demonstrating that athletes' perceptions of the coach and coaches' self-perceptions are synchronized and play a key role in predicting physical activity intentions.
