The North African region, which includes five middle powers and small states — Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, has important geopolitical and geoeconomic significance. The region is a place where the interests of regional and global powers collide, which directly or indirectly forms the basis for serious threats of not only a local but also a global nature. The North African states are small in terms of total and per capita GDP and population (with the exception of Egypt). This state of affairs predetermines the need for their specialization and inclusion in trade relations with large partner states, with trade in goods of strategic importance playing an important role, including energy, grain, pharmaceuticals, and ferrous metallurgy products, which can affect social stability, economic growth and security of states.
