Key Points

  • The aim is to create a portable format that maintains the accessibility of research documents after publication.
  • Developed a single-file HTML container for research documents and data.
  • Included interactive features for user engagement and navigation.
  • Ensured the format is open, reproducible, and licensed for shared use.
  • Queryable Research Bundles maintain the relevance and accessibility of research content over time.
  • Answers to questions posed during publication are tied back to their original document sections.
  • Format addresses gaps in policy-research and executive-education content availability.

Abstract

A Queryable Research Bundle is a single-file HTML container that carries a rendered research document, its underlying data, structured provenance metadata, an interactive thematic navigation layer, and a reader-facing Ask-this-article panel grounded on the document's own prose. The format addresses a specific gap in the distribution of policy-research and executive-education content: the document remains accessible after publication, but the questions it could answer at the moment of publication go silent. A Queryable Research Bundle keeps the document interrogable for the lifetime of its substantive relevance, with answers traced to the section of origin. The method is open and reproducible. The bundle is licensed under CC-BY 4.0.
