Abstract

Recent research has increasingly investigated the impact of sports participation and physicalactivity on health, brain development, and academic performance among children. While most studieshave focused broadly on physical activity, team sports may be more beneficial for children since theyrequire communication, cooperation, and rapid decision-making. These elements may contribute not onlyto physical health but also to cognitive and academic development in children. However, existing studiesreport mixed findings regarding the effects of general physical activity, school-based physical education, and different types of sports. This mini literature review aims to show how team sports influencechildren’s physical, cognitive, and academic development. Specifically, this review explores potentialbenefits of team sports participation in cardiovascular, muscular, and overall health in children. Inaddition, this review examines how team sports can influence children’s cognitive function, such asattention, memory, and behavior, as well as, whether team sports participation are linked to betteracademic performance.
