Relevance. Removable dentures are widely used in orthopedic dentistry, however, the materials of their bases (PMMA) contribute to the adhesion of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms, followed by the formation of biofilms. This can cause dysbiotic changes in the microbiocenosis of the oral cavity, inflammatory reactions of the mucous membrane and the development of candidal stomatitis. In this regard, it is important to study the effectiveness of specialized means for hygienic treatment of prostheses and their effect on the residual adhesion of microorganisms. Materials and methods. In an in vitro experiment, PMMA samples were studied after treatment with six cleaning agents in tablet form. Reference strains of Escherichia coli ATCC 25982, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538, Candida albicans ATCC 10231, Streptococcus mutans ATCC 3003, S. mitis NCTC 10712, Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 were used as test cultures. The index of residual adhesion was determined by the method of M.M. Davydov. Additionally, the effect of pretreatment with toothpaste was evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed using the Shapiro–Wilk and Mann–Whitney tests (p <0.05). Results. The control series revealed high rates of residual adhesion of all microorganisms. Splat Confident did not show a significant decrease in adhesion (p ≥0.05). PresiDent and Protefix provided a moderate effect. The most pronounced and statistically significant decrease in the residual adhesion index was found when using Corega Bio Formula and Corega Professional Max Clean (p <0.05). Pretreatment with toothpaste did not have a significant effect on adhesion. Conclusions. The effectiveness of cleaning agents for removable dentures varies significantly. The most effective are Corega Bio Formula and Corega Professional Max Clean. Regular use of specialized products is necessary to prevent microbial contamination and inflammatory complications.
