Abstract

The new cobaltite-group mineral sulfopadmaite, ideally PdBiS, was discovered in clausthalite-rich Au-Ag-Pt-Pd ores of the Srednyaya Padma deposit, Republic of Karelia, Russia.It occurs as anhedral grains up to 30 m in size usually residing at the clausthalitechromceladonite interfaces.Sulfopadmaite is also associated with dolomite, quartz, sulfurbearing padmaite, froodite, chalcopyrite, malyshevite, sobolevskite, aikinite, native gold, platinum and bismuth.Sulfopadmaite is optically isotropic; in reflected light it is pale yellow with a pinkish tint.Reflectance values for sulfopadmaite measured in air (, nm -R, %) are: 470 -46.3; 546 -48.4;
